Artist Spotlight: Matt Longo

Genre: Folk

Junkies' Description:
Matt Longo is a contemporary singer-songwriter with remarkable lyrical talent. I love the melancholy touches of violin in “When I Get Old” and several other songs, and the subtly mournful female backing vocals in other songs. His music is well-produced, but his voice is not studio magic. His vocal style is versatile, and his songs range from upbeat to more mellow and contemplative. Relax with a cup of coffee or tea this afternoon and enjoy his melodies. If you’re a fan of Iron & Wine, Brett Dennen, Jeff Buckley, Jack Johnson, and Andrew Bird, Matt Longo is right up your alley.

Official Bio:
Matt, formerly the lead singer of Sex During Wartime, wrote and recorded this album in Harlem, NY, in the wake of a relationship. He listened to solo Lennon records, Jeff Mangum, George Jones, and Late for the Sky. He tried to write honest songs that reflected his love of country music and indie-pop sensibilities. The result is Alexandria, 7 songs that sing of the high points (The High Life) and low points (Building a Wall) of being with somebody else. He wrote most of the songs on the bus to and from his teaching job, which is also in Harlem. He would like to thank Harlem, and its indie and folk musicians (yes, they’re there), for being so kind to him.
