Artist Spotlight: Poynte

Genre: Hard Rock

Junkies' Description:

For hard rock fans, you may find this spotlight a Poynte of interest. OK, forget the lame joke; we have an amazing band for you. Years ago, we went to see Drowning Pool live and got there early. We're glad we did because we got to witness Poynte's performance. It was full of passion, yet their heavy guitar riffs were like a teeth shattering kick to the mouth. Years later, their January 2012 EP “One More Day” shows the same passion and power as that live show we were lucky to see. For example, their song “Forever” has beautiful yet somewhat bleak lyrics surrounded by a tornado of earthshaking bass, drums, and guitar. Also, if you like a band with solos (and who doesn’t), then there are plenty to be heard in their tracks. Originally, the band came up with their name as a play-on acronym. POYNTE: Persons Of Young Nature Torturing the Elderly, but we don’t know if they kept the acronym idea anymore. As mentioned in their bio, Poynte’s shared the stage with bands that include 10 Years, Drowning Pool, Saliva, Pop Evil, Taproot, Fuel, and many more. As you would expect, if you like those bands, then Poynte is one to add to the collection.

Artist Spotlight: Sworn To Oath

Genre: Hard Rock , Metal

Junkies' Description:
Sworn To Oath knows what hard rock/metal is all about. Full of power riffs, heavy vocals, and insane guitar solos, these guys make it hard for you not to head bang. For being only a trio, they sure make a hell of a lot of sound, and that impresses me. If you like Zakk Wylde, then I’d be willing to bet that S2O will fit in your collection perfectly. Really, how could you not love a band that has a finger flying solo in every song?

Artist Spotlight: ill

Genre: Hard Rock

Junkies' Description:
Do you like some distortion in your hard rock? Well, I do, and ill has plenty of it. With only a keyboard, a guitar, and a drum set, these guys create a buzzing symphony for the hard rock fan. There’s not just one, but two lead singers. There’s always the risk of fans liking one over the other, but it shouldn’t be the case for ill. Both guys have awesome voices that sound somewhat alike. You’ll definitely love the heavy guitar work found in their tracks. I find hints of blues here and there, and it’s a nice touch.

Official Bio:
The music says more about us than we ever could.
We’re based in Atlanta, GA. We’ve played together for five years.
We signed to a major label as part of another band and found the experience restrictive and uninspiring. We opted out. Now we do what we want.
Black Sabbath, Ray Charles, and The Stooges taught us that heartache is give n’ take. It’s all the blues, it’s all the blues.
This is ill.

Ryan Waters - guitar/vocals
Marlon Patton - drums
Damion Goodpaster - keyboard/vocals

Artist Spotlight: Max Eve

Genre: Hard Rock, Progressive, Instrumental

Junkies' Description:
I had a chance to meet Max years ago. We both talked about our love for music, our favorite bands, etc. He also told me about his passion for the guitar. Fast forward to today. We are blessed to hear Max absolutely dominate the strings. To be honest, I’m nothing short of amazed by his ability to manhandle a guitar. Some of his songs have a cool mellow feel while others melt your face clean off. If your a fan of Buckethead, then Max Eve is right down your alley. Max has just released his first album, “Vertigo.” Feel free to listen to it right here, or you can purchase this fantastic work of art on iTunes. My personal favorite is “Built And Broken.” Just like all of his songs, It’s layered with multiple guitar riffs that are equally hard as they are melodic. Keep your eye on this one. His music is not to be unheard.

Official Bio:
I'm an instrumental guitarist from Atlanta, Ga who tries to explore a concept of melodic storytelling; with music, not with words. I have always been fascinated by music's many faces and draw my influences from a WIDE range of genres. I love experimenting with combining these different music styles in ways that surprise and entice the listener, but most importantly connect with them. I am currently playing solo but do not oppose the idea of playing with a band some day; I've only just embarked on my musical journey.
I have immense gratidtude for anyone reading this and supporting my music, thanks for listening!

Artist Spotlight: Black Queen Speaks

Genre: Hard Rock, Funk Rock

Junkies' Description:
Damn, this is a great band. They play some awesome hard rock that has real soul in every song. The vocals have a post grunge feel while the guitar has a classic heavy metal sound. Also, the groovy, funky bass riffs make you want to get up and dance. And you can’t forget that every song has an ass kicking guitar solo. All four guys are extremely talented, and I can honestly say that all seven songs on their debut album are nothing short of spectacular.

Official Bio:
Formed in Houston, TX but hailing from across the country, Black Queen Speaks came together for a common love of the almighty groove. Their sound is an amalgamation of blues, hard rock, grunge, 70’s funk, dance, and soul peppered with flourishes of 90’s hip hop. In short, Black Queen Speaks can best be described as if Jane’s Addiction and SoundGarden got their asses kicked by James Brown.
