Why can’t indie rock and hip-hop be friends? Peter West aka. PWEST is hip-hop artist from southern California that is out to prove that indeed, yes, they can be friends! Half of his songs like “Geek’d Up” have a club feel that will more for the traditional rap fans while the other half of his rhymes like “O.F.S.” will probably be more for the rock fans. Nonetheless, all of PWEST’s rhymes are unique and catchy. He has both original beats and rhymes on a mix tape. I would recommend to take a listen to both. You can try, but you’re not going to stop PWEST on his mission.

“My name’s Peter West and um, I’m 21 years old, I’m from Laguna Beach, California- South Laguna Beach to be specific,” but what makes West stand out from other 21-year-olds living in Laguna Beach, is that he unabashedly goes by “Mr. PWEST”- and brings music from polar opposite genres, like indie and hip-hop, and harvests them into ripe, luscious beats you wont regret.
From hip-hop artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Jay-Z, Andre' 3000 , and Snoop Dogg, to indie artists such as Andrew McMahon, The Black Keys, The Growlers, and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, West has formed a perfectly calculated and customized unique sound that is all his own.
A full time student, majoring in political science, and also working retail, West has always had a passion for hip-hop, and could relate to its message.
“Oh I love hip-hop music. I really dig the whole message that they’re talking about,” said West “I identify more with the underground hip-hop artists, who preach about the way the world is, and how people’s goals and aspirations are not necessarily where they should be- it should be on getting in tune with yourself, and mind elevation, and getting yourself smarter, and more prepared for the trials and tribulations of life.”
West grew up on classic rock and pop punk. More recently he got into indie folk and a bit of lo-fi electronic. A friend of West’s cultivated his natural talent for rapping and the rest is history.
“Him and I were like best friends- he rapped a lot, and he kinda taught me how to rap, and what it’s about. So we’d like freestyle in the car for hours on end.”
This friend’s untimely death along with another close friend’s death deepened West’s convictions and affirmed his calling to the world of music making.
“After they both passed away I was like it’s not really much of an option anymore. I felt like I have to do this music thing because they would if they could, and would want me to do that. If it makes it, it makes it, and if it doesn't it doesn't. I could care less at this point because I’m doing what I love.”
As a solo artist and member of COAST (Collective Operations Aligning Supernatural Thought) West has shared his music at Zabumba in Venice Beach, TrashPretty in Laguna Beach, Winstons in Hollywood, The Vanguard in Hollywood, where he opened for Mickey Avalon, Scottsdale Studios in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Show and Prove Labs in Scottsdale, Arizona (courtesy of Walking Stick/Native Thinking Productions) and numerous house parties.
The moment West takes the stage, he is overcome by a flow of energy empowering his soul, convincing him that he is doing what he was made to do.
Regardless of the fun that West experiences as a musician and performer, he has an unshakable vision.
“I want to change the face of music. I don't want to be the next big thing I want to create the next big thing, the next type of music beyond limits and above anybody expectations."

The final transformation is complete and JenovaTron is born. JevovaTron is the lyrical machine known as The Reverend Robot fused with the beat master himself, Jenova7. This alternative hip-hop duo combines hints of rock, electronic, funk, jazz, and more within their original beats and with their fast rhymes which makes their hip-hop creations quite unique. JenovaTron continues to evolve, so who knows what form it will take next.

The Reverend Robot hails from the church of rhyme. Once a normal human, he has now been rebuilt into a new, better, faster lyrical machine. He lays down some great remixes and mash-ups to rap to. You’ll hear hip-hop remixes of songs by groups like Crystal Castles, Gorillaz, and RJD2. I was first drawn in by the hip-hop remix of Dirty Harry which has an asian twist. He’s also known to team up with his colleague, Jenova7. Jenova7 creates some new, fresh beats for the Rev. When this super duo comes together, they evolve into the group Jenovatron.
Rev. Ro has dropped his debut album “Sermons Vol. 1: Infinite Capacity.” The thing I love about this album is that all the songs are different. You have “Baptism (By Fire)” which should appeal to the electronic fans that love clubbing. Then you have “Infinity Guitars/Hold The Line” which is more for the rock fans. He even has a chilled out track produced by NOUN called “I Can Do Everything” for fans of downtempo electronic or mellow music in general. Of course, all of his songs should rope in the hip-hop fans. The beats may be by other artists, but the rev. chose unique beats that grab your attention. His superb rhymes are all him baby.
Remember, the Reverend will only get stronger with each passing day.
