Awesome Spongebob remix video: "I Wumbo'd You A Song (extended)"

This guy did a great job remixing my favorite Patrick moment.

Mac is finally 21! But what does that mean for The Music Junkies?

WE CAN NOW BOTH GO TO ANY SHOW ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To celebrate, we're seeing Mishka at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta tomorrow with Mac's parents. And in case you were wondering, yes I got Mac drunk at the Pointe in the wee hours of his birthday morning.

All of the "21 and up" bullshit doesn't personally affect us anymore, but that doesn't mean we don't still hate it for all of the other music fans out there who can't see their favorite bands because of their age.

via Thought Catalog: "Is Paul McCartney As Big A Tool As We Always Thought? YES." by Anthony Cristofani

There are two kinds of people” arguments usually strike me as cheeky and stale.  But there is one incontestable version of the formulation:  there are two types of people in the world—those who prefer Paul McCartney and those who prefer John Lennon.
Read the rest of this piece from Thought Catalog. What are your thoughts?

Personally, I have to disagree. See, I'm a bit partial to Paul because I had a crush on him when I was 5. Don't call Paul a tool, man!

I'm being silly as usual, but the article is well-written and the discussion on it gets pretty heated.

Theory of Hipster Relativity

Oh my god. The unicorn.

But seriously I have been saying this for so long.

Artist Spotlight: The Fuzz

Genre: Blues Rock, Garage Rock

Junkies' Description:
Brand new rock duo the Fuzz are Todd Bruhnsen on guitar and lead vocals and Jason Bombach (of Nameless) on drums and backing vocals. They play loud, manic garage rock you can really groove to. And, you guessed it, there’s plenty of fuzz to be found in their sound. Todd plays some awesome guitar riffs and solos and delivers vocals with the right amount of edge. Jason’s expertly delivered drumming drives the music as there is no bassist, and his backing vocals complete the elements of this energetic, catchy rock band. Special note: the introduction to the Liverspot Lucy video is hysterical and we think you should watch it.

Behold! The 472 artists on Bandcamp performing at SxSW this year... You have 1 day, 6 hours, 32 minutes and 42 seconds of music remaining

http://bandcamp.com/sxsw

Thank you, Bandcamp!

Once again, the Music Junkies are not able to go to SxSW, but we can "be there" vicariously. Some day, in the far far future, we will be able to go to every concert and festival we want and only be limited by conflicts between shows.

Man, school is inconvenient.

Suburban Vampire: Songs from the Dark Shadows: A Gothic Musical by David Leinweber

Suburban Vampire: Songs from the Dark Shadows: A Gothic Musical: "Musician and college history professor David Leinweber's love of the 1960s gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows, has translated into the brand-new album Songs from the Dark Shadows: A Gothic Musical. Before Tim Burton and Johnny Depp bring their vision of Dark Shadows to the big screen, check out Leinweber's interpretation of the dark, romantic world of Collinwood Estate and the vampires, witches, and other supernatural creatures within."
I thought I should share this because David Leinweber's band Silverbird is one of The Music Junkies' Artist Spotlights!

When I read the title of this, I assumed it meant the sound a delicious apple pie makes. But no. Turns out it's about the other pi. Boo. I wanted desserts.
But this video = YAY.

New Artist Spotlight: Dumbo Gets Mad

Audio:
Sleeping Over - Dumbo Gets Mad

Sleeping Lessons - Dumbo Gets Mad

Junkies' Description:
Dumbo Gets Mad is definitely one of those artist names that sticks in your head. The phenomenal music you hear from Dumbo is made by just one guy, with occasional help from his lovely lady on vocals. It’s psychedelic rock with plenty of synth and echoing spacey sounds. The sounds and melodies of the songs he has composed have some real depth, which isn’t typical for most classic psychedelic rock. This guy is creating real gems here and it’s not to be unheard. As a side note, the song Sleeping Over may be one of the trippiest tracks that we have ever heard.

New Artist Spotlight: The UnderGrounds

Audio:
Leavin' You Ain't Easy - The UnderGrounds

Leavin You Ain't Easy - The UnderGrounds

Junkies' Description:
The UnderGrounds are a two-piece psychedelic rock and roll band with a bluesy feel. They fit right in with the first era of psychedelic bands... I could hear them on the Nuggets compilations. I compare the UnderGrounds to the 13th Floor Elevators, Chocolate Watch Band, and Moby Grape. And of course don’t forget the influence of Syd Barrett -era Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Cream. The UnderGrounds’ first 2 officially released tracks have a bold bluesy sound, and we can’t wait for more.

Visit the UnderGrounds' Artist Spotlight page for more information about the band:

Jack Skuller- "Ziggy Stardust" live (David Bowie cover) Video

Jack Skuller was only 13 when this video was made. Jack's voice is unbelievable, and being a huge fan of David Bowie, I "squee"ed when I saw that he covered "Ziggy Stardust."

This video was posted back in 2009, but I just discovered it today after we received an email about Jack's new video (to be posted later).

13 year old Jack Skuller singing Ziggy Stardust at the LOSER'S LOUNGE TRIBUTE TO DAVID BOWIE at Joe's Pub, NYC on October 8, 2009. Featuring the Kustard Kings led by Joe McGinty. Jack's clothes by designer Keanan Duffty (Rebel, Rebel).

I know, I should let Mac post some to keep the blog balanced, but this really couldn't wait.

Savannah Stopover Promo Video

Savannah Stopover Promo from Savannah Stopover on Vimeo.

The inaugural Savannah Stopover Festival, capitalizing on the logistical good fortune of Savannah, Georgia’s proximity to interstates 95 and 10, will present traveling musicians with a welcoming place to play en route to Austin’s prestigious SXSW Music Festival. The small, vibrant coastal community is rife with a unique brand of lowcountry hospitality and southern gothic ambiance, not to mention home to a burgeoning music scene, music-hungry demographic, and established arts community. The four-day festival will merge music, visual arts, and technology components – much in the spirit of SXSW itself – in an intimate, historical setting and at a price unrivaled by any music festival of like scale and scope.

A collaborative effort of MusicFile Productions and countless volunteers, partners, vendors, and media sponsors, the Savannah Stopover will showcase over 50 bands in more than ten local venues. Bands will enjoy the quirky, shamelessly social elements of Georgia’s Hostess City while festival-goers will be exposed to up-and-coming bands in closer, more personal environs.

The Festival is being ticketed with four-day and single-day passes that allows access to all shows/venues up to venue capacity. Get your passes by clicking on the ShowClix button on any page of the website.

I wish we could go to this... but it's such short notice.
